Sanctioned NACSW trials provide the opportunity to compete, title, and have fun with your dog. You're challenged with detection-inspired searches where your dog must track down the hidden odor and indicate its location. You'll search interior and exterior spaces, the perimeter of vehicles, and a variety of containers.
NACSW Odor Recognition Tests (ORTs) are a prerequisite to other NACSW trials. You and your dog are presented with twelve cardboard boxes in two rows. One of those boxes contains either Birch, Anise, or Clove. Your dog will show off their sniffing super powers by indicating the box with odor so you can proudly shout "Alert!". You must pass all three odors before you can compete in NW1 level trials.
Sniff and Gos are unsanctioned mock trials where you get to practice searching in new and unfamiliar areas. You're assigned an arrival time where you and your dog will go through all search areas consecutively. This allows you to experience searching new environments without losing your whole day. Sniff and Gos are great practice for sanctioned trials and whole lot of fun!
